Gold Coast Houses

The Gold Coast Historic District had its start in the 1800’s when rich and influential citizens moved into the neighborhood to build large mansions. Over the last 150 years, impressive stone structures have been built to house Chicago’s elite.

Many of Gold Coast homes are either row homes or brownstones built around the turn of the century. They are characterized by unique and ingenuous designs that draw the attention of any passerby. The primary architectural styles of these houses are Richardsonian Romanesque, Georgian Revival and Queen Anne. These styles helped shape the Gold Coast’s unique character and are a reminder of the neighborhood’s vibrant past. Many owners choose to use modern finishes and decors, giving these houses a more eclectic look with combined new and old styles.

Many of the Gold Coast homes for sale are priced well into the multi-millions. Most have been bought and restored to their original splendor. Several of these homes are three stories high and contain several bedrooms including parlors, greenhouses and sometimes coach homes. It is standard for Gold Coast houses to have luxurious amenities and excellent finishes.
